McCullum and a number of other key players were a part of a special draft after the Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings were suspended after they were found guilty in an illegal betting and match-fixing probe in July.

McCullum cost the club 1.6 million dollars.

Rajkot also picked up Suresh Raina, Ravindra Jadeja, James Faulkner and Dwayne Bravo.

The new Pune franchise went for a batting heavy core with players like MS Dhoni, Ajinkya Rahane, R Ashwin, Steven Smith and Faf du Plessis.

The two sides will fil the rest of their roster at the main auction in February.

McCullum could be considered as captain for Rajkot along with Suresh Raina.
