The lawyer representing Chris Cairns says he's at a loss to explain the former New Zealand cricket international's dropping from a list of players put forward for this year's Indian Premier League player auction.
IPL commissioner Lalit Modi had Cairns pulled from the auction list amid allegations of a link to alleged match fixing during his time in the rebel Indian Cricket League.
Cairns is now threatening to sue Modi.
Cairns was suspended from the ICL in 2008 for disciplinary reasons, with ICL officials he'd violated his contract by not reporting an ankle injury before taking part in the tournament.
Cairns' lawyer Andrew Fitch-Holland says the Modi's comments are profoundly damaging.
