Earlier this week the Black Ferns' regular head coach Greg Smith voluntarily stood down from the tour.

This followed Waikato Rugby's judicial decision to suspend him from coaching for 14 weeks for verbally abusing match officals while coaching for the club Fraser-Tech.

It was agreed by New Zealand Rugby and Smith that stepping down was in the best interests of the team.

Moore will join the Black Ferns for their pre-tour camp in Auckland on Wednesday.

He said the tour is important for the squad as they look to build towards the Women's Rugby World Cup in 2017.

"The Black Ferns will face England, USA and Canada - three of the top teams in the world, including the current world champions, England."

"This is an opportunity for the newcomers in the squad to gain invaluable international experience and stake their claim for the back jersey. I'm expecting some very exciting rugby."

Glenn Moore is a former Mid Canterbury loose forward (1986-92), who coached North Otago from 2000-2005 and the New Zealand Divisional XV from 2003-2005.

While coach of North Otago he took the side from the third to the second division, where they were semi-finalists in his last two years.

In 2006 and 2007 Moore was a Highlanders assistant coach before becoming Highlanders head coach from 2007 to 2010.

From 2010-2012 Moore was technical advisor for North Otago and he joined Mid Canterbury in 2013, leading them to Championship titles in 2013 and 2014.
