Lee in touch in New Orleans

A sizzling second round has vaulted Rotorua's Danny Lee into contention at the latest PGA tour event in New Orleans.

The rain interrupted round was completed on the tournament's third day when Lee carded an eight under par 64 to go 10 under for the event.

Darkness stopped Lee from completing his 3rd round while he was at was even par through five holes.

Tied for 11th, Lee is just three strokes behind co-leaders Eric Compton of the United States and Australia's Jason Day.

The Manawatu's Tim Wilkinson is at seven under for the tournament following back to back rounds of 69 and picking up one stroke through 12 holes in his third round.

Meanwhile, the Auckland golfer Michael Hendry has fallen from 13th into a tie for 21st after the third round of the China Open in Shanghai.

Hendry held a share of the lead of the lead on day one with his opening round 68, but consecutive rounds of 73 have pushed the New Zealander down the field at two under for the tournament.

Hendry is six strokes behind the leaders, who include the Defending champion Alexander Levy of France.

The Frenchman failed to capitalise on a super start to his third round and was forced to settle for a four-way tie for 1st.

Levy began the day as joint leader with compatriot Julien Quesne, but burst out of the blocks in Shanghai, recording four consecutive birdies to start his round as he moved clear in his bid to become the first man to defend the title.

However, a bogey-five followed at the fifth, before two more came on the par-fours 14 and 15 and he failed to take advantage of the generous par-five last to sign for a one-under-par 71 and eight-under total.

Quesne fell into a share of 10th at four-under after a disappointing round of 76 which featured three bogeys and two double bogeys.
