An inspired Super Rugby debut from the first five-eighth Damian McKenzie has lifted the Chiefs to a 23-18 win over the Blues at North Harbour Stadium.

McKenzie scored 13 points and controlled the game well in a scrappy first up performance from both sides.
First-half tries to the Chiefs wingers, James Lowe and Bryce Heem, helped the visitors to a 20-9 lead at the break.
They were held to just three points in the second half and three penalties from the Blues first five-eighth Ihaia West gave the hosts a chance to snatch victory, but the Chiefs held on.
