Burns set to stay at Phoenix

The Phoenix Australia striker Nathan Burns appears set to stay at the A-League football club.

There was speculation that Burns, the A-League's top scorer this season with 10 goals, would make a multi million dollar move to Chinese club Shanghai Shenhua.

Shanghai had made a formal offer for goal scorer Burns, who's been in imperious form for the Phoenix this season, helping the Wellington club to fourth place on the A-League ladder.

The Phoenix then went back to the Chinese club with their position regarding the possible transfer.

However the Phoenix General Manager, David Dome, says they haven't received any response from Shanghai regarding their demands.

Dome says the A-League transfer window has now closed though the Chinese Super League's transfer window is still open.

This means a straight transfer is not possible and the Phoenix would have to release Burns from his contract and then find a replacement who's also un-signed.

Dome says that makes Burns potential move "twice as hard for the Phoenix to complete."

However he says if Shanghai met the Phoenix' valuation of the Socceroos striker, the Wellington club would have to look af the offer.

Dome says reports the Phoenix had put a price of two to three million dollars on Burns were well off the mark.
