NZ badminton combinations progress in Glasgow

Five of New Zealand's seven badminton players have progressed to the last 16 in their respective individual competitions at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games.

Anna Rankin and Michelle Chan beat Isle of Man and Sri Lankan opponents respectively in the women's singles however Michael Fowke lost to a Sri Lankan in the men's singles.

In the mixed doubles Oliver and Susannah Leydon-Davis lost to Malaysia, however Kevin Dennerly-Minturn and Madeleine Stapleton beat a Ghanaian pairing.

Leydon-Davis and Dennerly-Minturn then combined to easily overcome a Ugandan combination to move through to the round of 16 in the men's doubles where they will come up against a top Welsh pair.

Rankin and Stapleton thrashed a Ghanaian pairing in the women's doubles.
