The Timaru native gets a chance to experience conditions at the Games venue of Hampden Park when he throws there at a Diamond League meeting this weekend.

Walsh says he's just finished a heavy block of training and is not expecting to be at his best this weekend.

However he's hoping to improve on the 20.51 metres he threw in his last competition at Eugene in May.

Walsh has been living and training at the mountainous Swiss Olympic training base, Macolin.

He says he's been throwing around the 20-metre mark at training which he calls very encouraging.
