Team NZ waiting for Dalton

6:00 pm on 4 June 2014

Team New Zealand is waiting until tomorrow to officially comment on the new rules which have been unveiled for the next America's Cup.

At the 2017 regatta a new AC 62 boat is set to be used with a crew of 8.

The new boats are smaller than those used in San Francisco last year.

There will be a three-year racing programme around the world from 2015 with races counting towards qualification for the 35th edition of the Cup... the top four will then compete in a play-off series to find the challenger.

A nationality rule has also been introduced with at least 25 percent of each crew must be nationals of the respective country's challenge.

Holder's Oracle are yet to announce where the next America's Cup will be held.

A Team New Zealand spokesman says they're still going over the new rules line by line and will waiting until team boss Grant Dalton arrives back in the country tomorrow before commenting.

Dalton has been in Europe trying to raise funds so Team New Zealand's can confirm its entry.
