Adam Scott resumes chase for top ranking

7:29 am on 8 May 2014

The Australian golfer Adam Scott could claim the world's top ranking, long held by Tiger Woods, even with a half decent result at this week's Players Championship in Florida.

The Players attracts the strongest fieldof the year, including the four major championships, and while Tiger Woods is recuperating from back surgery, a top-16 finish at the famous Sawgrass course will make Scott just the second Australian to hold the world number one ranking.

Apart from Scott, the next three players in the rankings Henrik Stenson, Bubba Watson and Matt Kuchar could all get to the top of the rankings.

Scott, Stenson and Kuchar are all previous winners of the Players Championship.
