Marshall released by Blues

11:32 am on 24 April 2014

Benji Marshall has been officially released from his Super Rugby contract with the Blues to allow him to return to rugby league after a failed attempt to switch codes.

The former Kiwis captain lasted only eight games with the Blues before deciding with the coach, Sir John Kirwan, he should walk away from his two year deal.

Marshall admits he struggled to adapt to the technicalities of the 15-man game and says at 29 he doesn't feel like he has the time to learn the game properly.

The Cronulla Sharks have been rumoured as a possible option for Marshall's return to the NRL, but he says he's been waiting for his release to be finalised before talking to any clubs.

The Blues will not be seeking a replacement player for Benji Marshall.
