Muliaina to spend long spell on Super Rugby sidelines

7:41 am on 24 February 2014

Mils Muliaina's return to the Chiefs has not lasted long after he re-injured the elbow he had surgery on last year in Japan, the fullback requiring a further operation that will put him out of Super Rugby for a lengthy period.

It's understood the All Black centurion will undergo a procedure today to ascertain the damage to the elbow after leaving the field in Friday night's 18-10 win over the Crusaders in Christchurch.

It's likely Muliaina will need surgery.

The casualty ward is already large for the Chiefs after just one game.

Halfbacks Tawera Kerr-Barlow and Augustine Pulu are both in doubt for this weekend's clash with the Highlanders in Hamilton, as are All Blacks lock Brodie Retallick and tighthead prop Ben Afeaki who both failed sideline concussion tests on Friday night.
