Barwood finishes middle of the pack in Sochi

New Zealand ski racer Adam Barwood has finished 44th in the Giant Slalom at the Winter Olympics in Sochi.

The 21 year old, New Zealand's National Champion in both Slalom and Giant Slalom, completed his first run in a time of 1:28:51, 7.43s behind leader American Ted Ligety.

Only 79 racers would qualify for the second run, Barwood amongst them.

The first time Olympian finished his second run in 1:28.89m, giving him a combined time of 2:57.40, leaving him in 44th place out of 109 competitors.

The United States Ted Ligety claimed gold with Frenchmen Steve Missillier and Alexis Pinturault

second and third respectively.
