Police and WorkSafe are investigating after a child died on a farm at Kairanga in Manawatū on Saturday.
The child is understood to be a toddler.
Police said the death was reported to them on Saturday about 11:50am.
A spokesperson said police were investigating the circumstances of the child's death.
"Our thoughts are with the child's whānau during this difficult time," the spokesperson said.
WorkSafe has also opened an investigation into the death of a child.
"Our sincere sympathy is with the family, and our inquiries are in their early stages," a WorkSafe spokesperson said.
The spokesperson said agriculture was New Zealand's deadliest industry in 2024.
