Mixed doubles pair win Oceanias

One win to the mixed doubles pairing has rounded out what's ultimately been a disappointing Oceania Badminton Championships for New Zealand in Ballarat, Australia over the weekend.

The lone victory to Waikato siblings Oliver Leydon-Davis and Susannah Leydon-Davis in the mixed doubles came with a loss in the country's other finals appearances in the individual competitions.

The Leydon-Davises beat Australia's best pairing and prevented the Australians from what would have been a surprise clean sweep of the individual titles, to go with the team title won earlier in the week.

In the women's singles top seed and New Zealand number one Michelle Chan was upset by up and coming Australian Verdette Kessler in three games, reversing the result from the 2012 Oceania Championships.

Earlier in the tournament men's top seed and New Zealand number one Joe Wu was upset in the semi-finals while the top ranked New Zealand men's doubles pairing of Oliver Leydon-Davis and Kevin Dennerly-Minturn were also defeated by an Australian pairing.
