Canada's Alex Bilodeau retained the men's moguls title to become the first freestyle skier to win two Olympic gold medals at the Sochi Winter Olympics on Tuesday morning.

The Canadian men's curling team suffered its first Olympic loss in eight years as they were beaten by Switzerland in a preliminary match.

Canada's Charles Hamelin claimed his third Olympic gold with victory in the 1500 metres short track skating.

France won its first gold of the games with Martin Fourcade winning the biathlon pursuit.

Michel Mulder won the 500 metres speedskating gold with the Netherlands completing a podium sweep - his twin brother Ronald was third.

The German skier Maria Hoefl-Riesch defended her super-combined title.

There were no New Zealanders in action.

Canada tops the medal table with seven, including three gold.
