All Blacks lead Halberg nominees

The All Blacks lead the nominations for the Halberg awards, with three nominations.

After winning all 14 of their tests in 2013, the All Blacks have already scooped the International Rugby Board and the New Zealand Rugby Union's award nights and look set to do so again at New Zealand's overall sporting awards.

The All Blacks have been nominated for team of the year, with the coach, Steve Hansen, in the running for coach of the year and the number eight, Kieran Read, up for sportsman of the year.

Read is joined by the IndyCar driver, Scott Dixon, and the equestrian, Andrew Nicholson as nominees for the award.

The Sportswoman of the Year Award will be contested by eight nominees including the swimmer, Lauren Boyle, the canoe racer, Lisa Carrington, the golfer Lydia Ko and the athletics star Valerie Adams.

Also in the running for team of the year are Emirates Team New Zealand, four rowing crews, a cycling team, the Black Sox softball team, four sailing crews and the New Zealand Breakers basketball team.

The winners will be announced on February 13 in Auckland.
