Ange Postecoglou is set to be officially unveiled as Australian football coach today after accepting an offer to become the Socceroos' saviour.
Postecoglou is expected to lead the Socceroos for the first time in a friendly in Sydney next month, possibly against Costa Rica.
The 48-year-old's ascension to the top job was delayed by his A-League club Melbourne Victory seeking a million dollar pay-out from Football Federation Australia for taking their coach.
Postecoglou's release from his 600 thousand dollar a year contract with the Victory was the sticking point yesterday, with the FFA reluctant to pay the A-League club out in full.
But last night the Victory agreed to release Postecoglou from his contract.
The FFA had already been forced to give Holger Osieck a severance pay of about $1 million after sacking the German as Socceroos coach following consecutive 6-nil losses to Brazil and France.
Postecoglou, who took Brisbane Roar to consecutive A-League championships before joining Melbourne Victory last year, was in a three-way battle for the Socceroos' head coaching role.
The other contenders - Central Coast Mariners boss Graham Arnold and Western Sydney Wanderers manager Tony Popovic - were contacted by the FFA.
Postecoglou, who emigrated to Australia aged five, will become the first local coach of the Socceroos since Frank Farina's tenure ended in June 2005.
