Wozniacki ousted in upset

5:36 pm on 1 September 2013

Former world tennis number one Caroline Wozniacki has been dumped out of the United States Open by unheralded Italian qualifier Camila Giorgi.

Beaten in three sets, Wozniacki the sixth seed joins former grand slam champions Petra Kvitova and Svetlana Kuznetsova in being ousted from the third round.

Giorgi advances to the last sixteen where she'll face compatriot Roberta Vinci.

Roger Federer is also through to the fourth round after a straight sets victory this afternoon over Frenchman Adrian Mannarino.

Federer says his next opponent, Spaniard Tommy Robredo will be difficult despite having beaten him in all of their ten previous encounters.

With victory over Robredo, Federer is likely to meet his nemesis Rapahel Nadal in the quarter finals.
