The West Indies cricketers have made an ominous start to their second innings in reply to England's 318 on the second day of the first cricket Test in Kingston, Jamaica.
The hosts posted 160 for one at stumps after dismissing England after lunch.
Hoping to shore up their first innings on day two after recovering from a poor start to be 236 for five at stumps, England were instead unable to push on, adding only 82 for the loss of five wickets after losing Andrew Flintoff early, the all-rounder failing to add to his overnight 43.
Fellow nightwatchman Matt Prior nudged his total up to 64 before being removed by Sulieman Benn, caught and bowled.
None of the lower order really got going for England, althought Ryan Sidebottom was stranded on 26 not out from an agonising 72 balls.
Chris Gayle and Ramnaresh Sarwan turned the Test emphatically in West Indies' favour with a classy second-wicket stand of 142 which spanned the final 48 overs of the second day.
Gayle's continuing where he left off in New Zealand, his 71 including three fours and three sixes. Sarwan's 74 maintains his classy, cagey ways, with eight well-timed fours from 182 balls.
