Leading European rowing nations have been castigated for ignoring next week's World Cup regatta in Sydney and leaving some events with fields as small as three or four boats.
Four-time Olympic champion Matthew Pinsent led the criticism of the likes of Germany, Italy, Greece and Holland who have failed to send a team to the first international regatta of the year.
Pinsent was outraged by the lack of support for the first World Cup outside Europe, moved to Penrith Lakes in an attempt to better globalise the sport.
Britain, Australia and New Zealand have provided big teams while China and the United States will be well represented at next week's regatta.
The men's quad has just three starters in Australia, New Zealand and Britain.
The blue-riband men's eight also only has four entrants while the men's pair has five, including two Australian and two French boats.
