Proteas skipper demands more from pacemen

South Africa's cricket captain Graeme Smith has demanded much better from his highly-acclaimed pace attack which was made to look second-rate in their series-opening draw against Australia at the Gabba in Brisbane.

In a major concern for the Proteas heading into the second test at the batting friendly Adelaide Oval, the world's best attack took a collective four wickets for 456 as Australia plundered 565 for 5 in the opening match of the series.

Australia had been 40 for 3 in their first innings on day three, but they ended up putting the Proteas under pressure, to come away with a moral victory.

The second test in Adelaide starts tomorrow week.
