Queensland decide against bringing in back up for sick skipper

The Queensland coach Mal Meninga insists he has no plans to bring in a backup player for skipper Cameron Smith, who's been quarantined while suffering flu-like symptoms two days out from the rugby league's State of Origin series opener in Melbourne on Wednesday night.

Smith's one of several Queensland players suffering from the bug.

Even though the squad doesn't contain a back up hooker Meninga says there's no thought of calling in an extra player and is confident Smith will be fit to play.
