The Ahuwhenua Trophy is awarded to high achievers in the Maori farming sector, and was inaugurated in 1932.

The awards are run each year, and alternate between dairy farming and sheep and beef.

Minister for Maori Development Te Ururoa Flavell officially launched the competition at the annual Federation of Maori Authorities conference in Wellington during the weekend.

Ahuwhenua Trophy Management Committee chairman Kingi Smiler said the competition was a brilliant way to showcase Maori dairy farming success, and entrants can gain invaluable feedback from industry experts.

Entries for the competition close on 27 November.
