President of Federated Farmers William Rolleston has been elected vice president of the World Farmers Organisation.
Dr Rolleston has been attending the organisation's general assembly in Milan, Italy, where the announcement was made.
His role as vice president will include advocating on behalf of farmers and representing their interests in international policy forums.
Dr Rolleston said the organisation supports farmers in better managing price volatility, leveraging market opportunities and access to market information.
