A revised code of practice for forestry safety is the focus of a roadshow being taken across the country.
The Ministry of Business, Innovation & Employment says forestry is a risky industry and the code was reviewed so the industry has the best picture for safe practice.
Forest Owners Association said the revision has been a long time coming and provides a very important base level standard for the industry.
But the Council of Trade Unions said the code won't make any difference to the industry's safety. CTU president Helen Kelly said it does not provide much guidance on working in bad weather or fatigue management.
So far this year, two forestry workers have died and three have been seriously injured.
The Council of Trade Unions says 33 forestry workers have died and 874 have been seriously injured since 2008.
The roadshow begins in Kaitaia on Monday.
