Armed police attend Morrinsville incident

8:49 pm on 26 March 2016

The Armed Offender's Squad was called to Morrinsville after a man reportedly stood on the roof of a house, holding a firearm.

The police said they were responding to reports that a man had been standing on the roof of a house carrying a firearm.

Armed police arrived and cordoned off a section of Morrinsville in Waikato, using tear gas because they were unsure if the man was still present.

They cleared the house and found no evidence that any firearm was present or had been used, they said.

No arrests had been made and no charges laid, the police said.

They were looking to locate and speak with the man mentioned in the original emergency call.

Several roads had been closed but all the police cordons have now been lifted.

The police said there was no reason for concerns for the safety of the public.
