A man is in custody after an Armed Offenders Squad (AOS) callout to a small rural settlement north of Napier late this morning.
A police spokeswoman said officers were called to a house in Waikoau, 45km northwest of Napier, about 11.20am, after a woman said she had been assaulted by her partner and a shot had been fired.
The woman was able to escape to a nearby property. She has minor injuries but it was not yet known if the shot was fired at her.
The Hawke's Bay AOS made their way to the isolated settlement and found the man in a local house.
He was arrested without incident about 1.30pm.
A cordon at the intersection of SH2 and Waikoau Rd has now been lifted.
