Police are rejecting claims they only hurried up their response to a robbery at a south Auckland dairy after the owner's son pretended to have a firearm.
Baljit Singh, who owns the Redhill Superette in Papakura, says there have been two incidents in the past three days, prompting him to put CCTV footage on Facebook.
The footage shows a man trying to break in through a window on Friday night, and early last night, a group of eight people walked in and stole items and tried to break into the till.
Two shop keepers are seen in the footage arming themselves with a hockey stick and cricket bat as the group loaded up on items such as cigarettes.
Mr Singh said when he called the police both times he was told they were busy, and it wasn't until his son took over last night's call, saying he had a firearm, that the police turned up.
But Inspector Dave Glossop said the police got to the store in eight minutes.
"If there is a firearm involved, then obviously that does mix in with the prioritisation of the job, but we get to jobs as fast as we can."
Mr Glossop could not say if the two incidents were linked but police were investigating.
