A man who staged a treetop protest in West Auckland to protect a kauri will have to wait a further three weeks to hear his sentence.
Johno Smith, a 32-year-old arborist, was due to be sentenced on Wedensday morning on a charge of trespass for spending 13 days in the canopy of the kauri in Titirangi last December.
But a court mix-up meant his application to take part in restorative justice had not been sent to the owners, John Lenihan and Jane Greensmith.
Community Magistrate Lauolefale Lemalu adjorned the sentencing so the couple had time to consider the offer of meeting Smith.
Smith, who pleaded guilty to trespass in January, said he really wanted the opportunity to meet face to face with them.
He is due to reappear in Waitakere District Court for sentencing on 23 March.
