A man is due to appear in the Auckland District Court charged with sexual violation by unlawful sexual connection.
The charge relates to an incident early on Thursday morning.
The police said a man followed a woman into her Queen Street apartment building then broke into her apartment and assaulted her.
The accused, 22, was also charged with burglary.
In a statement yesterday, police said people should take note of who followed them into secure apartment blocks and tell the police if they saw anything suspicious.
