A Wairarapa man has been taken into police custody after firing a shot in the air.
Police say the Armed Offenders Squad was called to a Carterton address shortly after 8pm yesterday.
They say the 54-year-old man had fired one shot from the rifle into the air.
He was arrested and taken into custody just after midnight, and a rifle was located and seized.
Police said occupants in the house were able to leave before matters escalated and local residents were contacted and alerted about the events.
