Baby-crash driver charged

Police have charged a 22-year-old Otara man after a car they were chasing crashed, injuring a baby and her mother.

The driver was also hurt after the car crashed and rolled on to its roof near Kumeu, West Auckland, last Thursday.

The man will appear in Manukau District Court this afternoon charged with reckless driving, failing to stop for police and driving while banned.

A police spokesperson said the driver, a woman and her five-month-old daughter were discharged from hospital the day after the crash.

Police did not know there was a five-month-old baby was in the back seat when they started the pursuit, the spokesperson said.
