Injured tourist rescued after 30m fall

9:19 pm on 10 December 2015

An Israeli tourist has been rescued from a mountain in the Arthur's Pass area with broken leg and head injuries after sliding 30 metres down steep ice onto rocks.

He was a member of a 3-man party of climbers that police said was poorly prepared.

A helicopter rescue team was used to reach the man.

The alarm was raised early this morning when three Israeli men were attempting to traverse an area of steep ice and snow, and one of them fell.

The injured man's companions have been taken to Arthur's Pass, after one of them was able to make it back to Goat Pass Hut and call for help.
