A female cyclist was thrown to the ground and punched several times in Dunedin yesterday.
Dunedin police have praised the actions of two good samaritans who went to the aid of the cyclist as she was being attacked.
The 45-year-old woman was cycling along Portsmouth Drive near the intersection of Strathallan Street at about 3.30pm yesterday afternoon.
A man began shouting at her, grabbed the bike and went on to punch her several times and pushed her to the ground.
Two men heard the woman's screams and came to her aid.
He is described as Pakeha, in his 40s, of solid build and with blond hair.
It was earlier reported that the incident occurred this morning in Portobello, but that information was incorrect. The incident happened yesterday afternoon in the city.
