A nine-year-old girl has died after being found critically injured at a Palmerston North primary school.
Somerset Crescent School board of trustees chair Tony Coffin said the girl was found with serious injuries during school hours on Tuesday.
He said a staff member tried to revive her before she was taken to hospital, but she died the next day.
Mr Coffin said a specialist Ministry of Education trauma team had been on site and a funeral would be held tomorrow.
He said a police investigation was also underway.
He described the girl as an intelligent child who used to hug staff every morning.
