A 60-year-old businessman has been remanded in custody to reappear next week on charges of attempted blackmail over a threat to contaminate infant milk formula with 1080.
The man, whose name is suppressed, briefly appeared in the Manukau District Court today.
He was arrested earlier this month following an extensive police investigation.
When the man reappears next Friday, the court will consider whether to move the case to the High Court.
