A strong earthquake has been felt around the Gisborne region this morning.
The magnitude 4.5 quake, just after 5am, was centred 20 kilometres north-west of Tolaga Bay, and was 15 kilometres deep.
It follows another strong, shallow quake in the Wellington region late at 10:45pm last night.
That quake was of magnitude 4.4, at a depth of just 6 kilometres, and had its epicentre 30 kilometres east of the capital. It was also felt throughout the central North Island.
