A woman is in a serious condition in Auckland Hospital after falling 14 floors from a hotel window in the central city.
Police said the incident happened about 2.30pm this afternoon, outside the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Albert Street.
Initial reports said the woman had died on the scene, but police now say she in currently in surgery at Auckland City Hospital.
Witness Leighton James was waiting for his bus outside the hotel when he spotted an object falling out of the corner of his eye, then heard a loud crash.
"Nobody screamed, nobody panicked, there was no real reaction because everybody thought something had fallen from the actual building itself," he said.
"We saw two trainers on the street, and realised it was an actual human being that hit the car."
The police are currently investigating, looking at security footage and attempting to contact next of kin.
The southbound lane on Albert Street was closed off, but has now been reopened.
