The Far North District Council is rejecting claims that raw sewage is being pumped into Hokianga Harbour.
The Northland Regional Council's Te Taitokerau Maori Advisory Committee said it had heard from people who said toilet paper and faeces were in the water - which were being pumped from the Rawene Sewerage Plant.
But local council spokesperson Ruben Wylie said there was no way pollution would come from its wastewater works.
He said he had not seen any evidence of the faeces or toilet paper that were alleged to have been discharged into the harbour.
Mr Wylie said he was aiming to meet the locals who had complained about the sewage.
