The soldiers spoke about their part in the Israeli military operation in Gaza last year where more than 2000 Palestinians were killed.

About 60 people protested in the hallway and about 15 of those got into the lecture hall.

While the soldiers talked about their personal experiences in the operation, there were several interruptions, and the group who got inside were asked to leave.

The protest organiser, Ian Anderson, said the talk should not have happened.

He said the university allowing such discussions on its ground was a show of support for what happened in Gaza.

However, organisers said such talks belonged at universities where open discussion and the right to free speech should be supported.
