A man in Denmark has been arrested for what police in New Zealand say were persistent online attacks targeting an Auckland school girl.
The man, 24, is charged under Danish laws with crimes relating to the online posting of private photos and the hacking of private computers.
He is to face a closed hearing in the Court of Kolding Town where authorities will ask for him to be detained before a trial.
Danish prosecutor Niels Tipsmark said the co-operation between the two countries on different sides of the world had been smooth and mutual.
The investigation resulting in the man's arrest was a joint operation between New Zealand Police and the Danish National Cyber Crime Centre.
Police in New Zealand said the case had been particularly distressing for the 15-year-old girl and her family.
Head of the New Zealand Cybercrime Unit Detective Senior Sergeant Cliff Clark said they were pleased for the student and her relatives that an arrest had been made.
He said an arrest like this involving two countries, involving these types of allegations, was relatively rare. They said the girl was a teenager but would not say in which part of Auckland she lives.
Lee Chisholm, operations manager for internet safety group NetSafe, said the girl contacted her organisation with her family earlier this year after the attacks began.
Things got out of hand for the teenager, and it was distressing for her, she said.
The organisation then called in the police.
Ms Chisholm said the girl was subjected to continuing attacks, and it was a serious situation for her and her family.
