The new control tower for Wellington Airport was granted resource consent yesterday and will lean into the prevailing northerly wind at an angle of 12.5 degrees.
Mayor Celia Wade-Brown said submissions from pilots concerned about the visibility from the tower had been sorted.
She said it was a fun design.
"You certainly will see the lean, it will be quite dramatic I think and at night it will change colour depending on the strength of the wind, apparently."
The lean of the Tower of Wellington will be at a greater angle than Italy's famous Leaning Tower of Pisa.
