Police officers trying to pull over a stolen car in Christchurch set off a train of events in which one of their vehicles was rammed and a second car, also stolen, crashed.
Police said officers in two patrol cars tried to pull over a stolen Nissan Cefiro on Fitzgerald Avenue, just before 11am today.
They said the driver rammed a patrol car and fled.
Officers pursued the car but abandoned the chase due to high speed.
Police said the driver of a Toyota Corolla, also found to be stolen, which was following the fleeing car, also failed to stop when they tried to pull it over.
It then went over a traffic island at the intersection of Innes and Briggs Roads, before crashing into another car.
The driver, who ran off, was found by police dogs hiding in a ditch.
The police later tracked the Nissan and arrested the driver.
Two men will appear in the Christchurch District Court tomorrow on multiple charges.
