Two men have been arrested and are facing charges of threatening to kill and assault after an incident in a small Otago town overnight.
Police received a number of calls about an alleged murder and multiple stabbings at a shearer's quarters in Milton at about 1am today.
Senior Sergeant Craig Brown said when officers arrived, they found the offenders had fled the scene.
No one was seriously injured, but police said people had been assaulted and threatened with knives and a baseball bat.
He said a number of the property's windows were smashed and a vehicle had been damaged.
Officers arrested a 31-year-old man at a Milton address shortly afterwards and a 29-year-old man was arrested this afternoon.
Mr Brown said it was possible further charges could be laid.
Both men will appear in the Dunedin District Court tomorrow.
