Auckland carver and painter Selwyn Muru has returned home safe and well after being missing for several hours.
Mr Muru went for a walk from his Grey Lynn home about 1.30pm and returned about 11pm.
His wife, Margaret Nepia-Muru, said it was not the first time the 72-year-old, who suffers from mild dementia, had gone missing, but he had never been away from home so long before.
Officers looked for him and police had asked taxi drivers, bus drivers and the public to watch out for him.
