Yun Qing Liu has denied killing his long-term partner in November 2012 before reporting her missing to the police.

Ms Chen's remains were found in a stream that runs through Totaravale Reserve on Auckland's North Shore 16 months later.

Constable Sonny McSweeney told the High Court in Auckland today that he went and saw Mr Liu as part of the police search for Ms Chen.

Mr McSweeney told the court he also questioned neighbours.

One of those was a man who described hearing a heated exchange, but he could not tell what it was about because the couple were speaking a foreign language.
