Emergency services are at the scene of a serious car crash on State Highway 3, south of Marton.
The police are looking for a white van that may have been involved in a crash in which two people have died near Marton, closing State Highway three.
State Highway 3 is closed in both directions, with traffic being diverted onto Neumans Road, Makirikiri Road, and Union Line.
A blue Holden carrying five people and towing a trailer collided with a Mazda with two passengers.
Two of the passengers in the Holden died at the scene. The other five people involved in the accident were injured, one critically, and are now in hospital.
Inspector Dave Rose said police wanted to hear from anyone who saw the crash, particularly one vehicle that may have been nearby.
