A Palmerston North woman has been charged with manslaughter over the death of a teenager in respite care.

Nathan Booker, who was 15, drowned in a bath in January 2014.

Police initially did not lay charges, but Central District Crime Manager, Detective Inspector Marc Hercock, said further information and legal advice led to the prosecution.

The woman appeared in court this afternoon and was granted name suppression.

She will reappear in court later this month.
