No change following port meeting

Auckland councillors have emerged from a two-hour meeting on the stand-off with Ports of Auckland, with no immediate change of stance.

The council owned company is proceeding with major wharf extensions that the councillors have asked be halted.

But the council first wants a study on the port's future.

Mayor Len Brown described today's briefing as worthwhile, and the council's position may be come clear at its regular meeting on Thursday.

Earlier today, a North Shore woman Carol Banks failed in a bid at the High Court to obtain an interim injunction halting the work immediately.

She hoped to challenge that ruling at the Court of Appeal.
